We have all heard that our prisons and jails are overcrowded. What we may not realize is how many people are in our jails solely due to their inability to pay bail. For many, the possibility of sitting in jail until their case is heard is overwhelming–it could take months, so guilty pleas are entered (frequently by innocent people) just to get back to their families and jobs. The bail system is a remnant of Jim Crow laws that punish a disproportionately large number of people of color just because they are poor.

This webinar explores not only the present bail system in the United States, but also introduces one solution–The Bail Project. NBA Mission Specialist, Rev. Dean Bucalos, hosts Shameka Parrish-Wright, a Bail Disrupter, who shares how a revolving bail fund is being created across the country through The Bail Project to combat the injustice of wealth-based detention. Learn how you and your congregation can get on board and address this serious injustice.
