DESCRIPTION:Overwhelming political changes prompt organizations to be innovative and take responsibility for helping others fulfill their purposes in times of uncertainty. How can we transform our resources\, gifts\, and talents into effective mobilization and organization for change? How can we connect our hearts\, minds\, and hands to overcome inertia and inspire action? This webinar will present a roadmap for community organizing\, highlighting key steps for transformation from a grassroots perspective. It will also emphasize the crucial moral commitment to promote resourcefulness and civic action against authoritarianism. Angel Luis Rivera–Agosto is NBA’s Community Engagement Senior Coordinator for Justice Initiatives\, where he creates and nurtures engagement strategies for the organization and its partners to transform the root causes of social injustice. Rev. Rivera-Agosto has 30 years of experience serving in various missional\, ecumenical\, and pastoral settings. He pastored the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at Dajaos\, Bayamón (student pastor)\, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at Maricao Ward\, Vega Alta\, both congregations based in Puerto Rico. Most recently\, he served as the Global Relations Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean for Global Ministries for nine years. He also worked as the Puerto Rico Council of Churches Executive Secretary and Program Coordinator of several programs at the Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI\, acronym in Spanish)\, and the World Council of Churches. \nModerator:  \nRev. Héctor J. Hernández Marcial serves as Director of Community Engagement for NBA. In this role\, Héctor’s primary responsibility is to identify\, establish\, and deepen collaborative relationships that strengthen all NBA programs’ work and capacity. He also works with other NBA staff to design\, implement and evaluate programs with specific attention given to leadership development and advocacy/activism/organizing initiatives. In addition to that\, Hector also collaborates with all of NBA’s program areas to ensure diverse voices are included and heard equitably\, and supervises NBA’s Peer Learning and Wellness Groups. \n  \n  \n

In this role\, Joselyn works to design and implement programs that promote holistic wellness across all NBA programs. This work is done through the creation of learning resources for clergy and community leaders\, addressing the needs of pastors in a variety of ministry settings\, sharing the stories that help to eliminate stigmas related to mental health and wellness. She is passionate about mental health care\, holistic wellness\, communal care ethics\, and spirituality. As a holistic wellness specialist\, she has worked at the intersection of these passions to develop research and provide empathic care to all she is called to serve. \n  \nCameron Cunningham\, M.Div.\, NBA Mental Health and Wellness Program Coordinator\, is a dedicated clergy\, religious educator\, and social advocate with a strong commitment to building faith communities and advancing holistic and social equity. Cameron’s work is driven by the belief that faith can serve as a catalyst for creating and nurturing strong unified communities. He brings exceptional dedication and meticulous preparation working at the intersection of faith and mental health as he has collaborated with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)\, to further enhance his expertise in addressing mental health and substance use disorders within faith communities.  \n  \nPastor Rossy Castillo is the dedicated pastor of Iglesia Hermandad Cristiana (Discípulos de Cristo) in Indianapolis\, Indiana. A lifelong servant of the church\, she began her ministry at a young age\, becoming a Sunday School teacher at 10 and leading various church ministries in her teens. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Theology\, she served as an interim pastor for churches planted by her father. Since moving from the Dominican Republic to Indianapolis\, she has held numerous leadership roles\, including serving on the General Commission on Ministry (GCOM) and the board of Obra Hispana. Currently\, she is the moderator of the Midwest Convention of the Obra Hispana. She has been honored with the “Woman of the Year” (2012) award and the “Legado” award (2018) for her impactful work within the community. \n  \nRev. Dr. Cedrick Von Jackson is a distinguished preacher\, poet\, speaker\, writer\, and educator\, currently serving as the Senior Pastor of the Historic West Hunter Street Baptist Church in Atlanta\, GA. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Memphis Theological Seminary\, he holds a Doctor of Ministry focused on rethinking mental health in the African American church. With over 27 years in education\, he has been recognized for his leadership as an administrator\, teacher\, and advocate\, serving on the advisory board of WomanPreach! Inc. and contributing sermons and writings to The African American Pulpit and The African American Lectionary. A passionate author\, Pastor J has published two poetry anthologies—Following the Breadcrumb Path: Navigating the Journey Toward God\, Justice\, and Love and Theoethnimusicology\, Vol. 1 – Nothin’ But the Blues—works that intertwine faith\, justice\, and the narrative of the Blues. A member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity\, Inc.\, he enjoys traveling\, skiing\, and writing poetry. He has been married to his college sweetheart\, Eulanda Willis\, for 30 years\, and together they share two children\, a son-in-law\, and their beloved dog\, Lady.\n \n  \nTaulau (Tau) Tupua is a dedicated faith leader and educator with a strong background in youth ministry\, interfaith engagement\, and community service. He recently served as Associate Pastor of Youth & Mission at First Christian Church of North Hollywood\, where he cultivated spiritual formation and mission-driven service among youth and young adults. Previously\, he served as Director of Family Ministries at First United Methodist Church of Redondo Beach\, developing innovative programs and leading diverse ministry teams. He holds a Master of Divinity from Claremont School of Theology and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a Minor in Religious Studies from Chapman University. \n

DESCRIPTION:The National Benevolent Association recognizes that leadership in today’s cultural climate can be a difficult job and that creating space for education and personal growth is key to sustainability both for leaders and the organization. NBA’s leadership development grants are designed to enhance and promote the health\, well-being\, and skill development of organizational leaders. \nExecutives and Leaders of Disciples-affiliated Health and Social Service organizations are eligible to apply for Leadership Development Grants up to $1000 per year. Grant funding may cover courses\, seminars\, workshops\, or coaching that enhance the knowledge and skill set of organizational leaders to work more effectively. SUMMARY:Apply for a 2025 Young Adult Leadership Development Grant
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nThrough NBA’s Young Adult Leadership Development (YALD) program area\, we seek to co-create spaces with and for young adults 18-30 to flourish in life and service. NBA’s YALD grants are specifically designed to support current and future leaders in identifying their leadership qualities\, building leadership capacity\, and allowing young adults to explore new possibilities in the areas of service and justice. Young adults are eligible to apply for either a Development Grant or an Exploration/Ingenuity Grant. \nDevelopment Grants\nThese grants are intended for: \n\nYoung adults working in a health and social service profession seeking additional training to enhance their knowledge/skills to be more effective in their current role or seeking to advance beyond that role.\nYoung adults seeking more broad leadership training to hone specific skills in church or community leadership (ex. diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and belonging training\, conflict transformation\, community organizer training\, etc.)\nYoung adults seeking assistance for formal courses related to fields of study in health and social services.\n\nExploration/Ingenuity Grants\nThis grant is for young adults who desire to pursue a passion project\, social enterprise idea\, or advance a project they already started. Projects or social enterprises must be community or congregation-based\, and related to a particular health\, social\, or justice need in their context. \n\nHow to Apply\n\nApplications are not open at this time.
