Florence Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Florence Christian Church celebrates God’s welcome table of abundant love, grace, and acceptance. The congregation has been a “Servant Church” to community needs since 1831. Florence Christian shares God’s, transformational love in a variety of ways, from affordable senior housing to safety, care, and learning for 204 children at Discover Zone, a 24-7 outdoor food pantry and bi-monthly food distribution, shower ministry, recovery groups, and purchasing school supplies.

The Fresh Start Shower Ministry opened on March 1, 2022, promoting dignity through safe and welcoming place with showers and restrooms. The ministry improves the well-being of guests by providing a compassionate, caring community for people experiencing homelessness. Shower ministry staff, volunteers, and community partners accompany shower guests on their journey to make connections with social and health services to improve their physical, mental, and emotional health.

Guests receive a shower in a private, ADA-compliant bathroom, laundry of two outfits, and snacks and drinks. Collaborative partners provide a Hope for Souls Foot Clinic weekly, HIV/Hep C testing twice a month, clothing assistance, haircuts, referrals to other social services, and a hot breakfast once a week.
