Spectrum Ministry Sensory Room
The Christian Youth Foundation, Athens, TX
Disciples Crossing is seeking to create a fully functioning sensory room for our Atypical campers. A sensory room is one of the main building blocks in Spectrum ministry; it allows a space for Atypical campers to seek solace and regroup when over stimulated in whatever form that takes for them.
In 2017 Disciples Crossing hosted its first Spectrum Weekend. Spectrum Weekend is a retreat that offers Atypical campers a chance to experience camp, and all the joys that come with it, in a comfort zone they are familiar with, while at the same time providing their parents and neurotypical siblings with the same thing. Disciples Crossing becomes a place where Atypical campers and their families discover the promise that Isaiah proclaims. “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” -Isaiah 40:31
