Thoughts on the XPLOR Cornerstones

NBA XPLOR Residents agree to live by four cornerstones when they join the program:

  1. Hands-on Justice Work
  2. Simple Communal Living
  3. Discernment on Vocation
  4. Leadership Development

I was really worried that these cornerstones would box me in and make me feel trapped. I almost didn’t join the program for just this reason. But they are not meant to confine or restrict the individuals in the program. I am now realizing how they help structure the year spent as an XPLOR Resident to be filled with purpose. Although I still struggle with the feeling that I am living within rules that are stricter than they need to be, I feel that they are in place to try and encourage me and the other XPLOR Residents to be the best versions of ourselves.
