Getting to know Lauren
Why do you feel “called to care” about Disciples health and social service ministry?
From an early age, I naturally stepped into the role of a helper and nurturer—whether with family, friends, or in my professional life. I thrive in spaces where I can support and advocate for those who may not have a voice. Now more than ever, I feel called to be part of the transformative work happening in health and social services. Serving as a Program Coordinator with the NBA allows me to live out the values that have shaped me since childhood, within an organization that shares my deep commitment to care, justice, and community.
Who is a hero of yours, and why?
If I had to name just one hero, it would be my grandmother—my beloved Mimi. Being her first grandchild is one of my greatest honors. While I sometimes wish she were mine alone, Mimi has touched the lives of so many—my childhood friends, Girl Scout troop, and teammates have all come to know and love her as their own. Mimi spent her career as a supervisor with the Social Security Administration, and through her, I learned what it truly means to care for people. She led with compassion, always prioritizing her family while nurturing her team with the same grace. Even now, as the matriarch of our family, she continues to embody kindness, generosity, encouragement, and unwavering faith. She is our prayer warrior, our gentle guide, and the heart of our family. Mimi is the definition of legacy. I strive to live a life that reflects even a fraction of the love and admiration she inspires. She will always be my hero.
If I tried to find you in a supermarket, what aisle would you be in?
You’d probably find me roaming more than one aisle! The supermarket is one of my favorite places to explore, discover, and get inspired. I love trying new products and imagining how different flavors and textures can come together in creative ways. It’s like a playground for my curiosity. While I can’t name just one aisle, you can count on me making a weekly trip to see what’s new at my local Trader Joe’s!
