As an emerging social entrepreneurship nonprofit model of ministry, the Oakland Peace Center exists as a physical space (40,000 square feet gifted by First Christian Church of Oakland) and a network of people and organizations (over 40 Bay Area-based nonprofits). It brings together direct service, advocacy, youth empowerment, art, and culture shift organizations to cross-pollinate. Its purpose is to help small, local nonprofits on the front lines of the struggle for peace and justice connect with each other and support expanding their capacity and collaboration across sectors.

Founder Rev. Sandhya Jha comes from a background in community organizing and political engagement. In addition to her work with the Oakland Peace Center, she serves as Director of Interfaith Programs at East Bay Housing Organizations (promoting and preserving affordable housing in Alameda and Contra Costa counties) and as chair of Faith Alliance for a Moral Economy (creating a network of spiritual support for low-wage workers and immigrants throughout the East Bay). She is an anti-racism trainer for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a regular public speaker across the country on issues of race and social justice. She also loves to sing and play guitar and to cook meals for her expansive family of choice in Oakland.
