Steward Your Self Care: A Self-Care Plan and Coloring Book

Joi McCreary

In June 2023, a group of diverse mental health professionals were called together to serve on a two-year Mental Health Equity Cohort (MHEC) led by Director of Mental Health and Wellness, Joselyn Spence, MDiv, LPC, ATR.

Throughout December, MHEC members will share a variety of resources and stories to help you navigate through the wintertime, holidays, and beyond. Today, we’re sharing an activity book crafted by Joi McCreary.

Self-care is an act carried out by individuals to care for themselves with things that benefit them spiritually, mentally, emotionally, socially, and physically. In short, self-care is prioritizing the care needed for oneself.

In some instances, self-care is often seen as a selfish act by some people. Why could this be? Well…this may happen because sometimes social constructs and cultural upbringings taught the community that “we have to prioritize and care for others before ourselves.”

Indeed, caring and being concerned about others is something that most humans apply within their life, but develop ways to ensure you are finding a healthy balance between your self-care and the care of others.
