Soul Medicine: A Toolkit for Community Leaders and Care Providers

July 8, 2025 | by Britt DeTienne

Soul Medicine is almost here!

A staple of NBA’s Mental Health Equity Cohort journey is the development of a resource or gift for the Disciples church at large to assist with addressing issues of wellness equity and mental health justice.

Clergy, community leaders, and care providers are often in need of consistent renewal and do not always have access to supports, techniques, and experiences specifically created for them.

As an intentional response, The 2023-2025  Mental Health Equity Cohort is excited to announce a sacred offering crafted by and for community leaders, this resource is a balm for the spirit—woven with practices of care, connection, and collective healing. Soon to arrive in both visual and tangible form, this toolkit invites you to breathe, reflect, and be held.

The Toolkit includes sections on navigating grief, storytelling, rituals of healing, developing affinity groups for nourishing optimal joy, how to ask for help, sacred breath: integrating symbols of faith and mindfulness, and more.

Come see this toolkit in action in the workshop, “We Need Care Too” at the 2025 Disciples General Assembly and stay tuned here as we share updates as this project continues to come to life!
