NBA’s Justice Initiatives Webinar to Offer Information, Guidance to H.R. 1 Bill

October 16, 2025 | by NBA Cares

In July 2025, H.R. 1, also known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” was signed into law, bringing with it a dramatic shift in federal priorities and significant implications for the ways that organizations support health, food access, and financial stability in their community. How do these organizations respond? What should they do next? NBA’s Community Engagement Justice Initiatives team will explore these questions in their upcoming webinar Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and You: What to Expect, What to Do, taking place Thursday, October 23rd at 7:30pm ET/6:30pm CT.

Rev. Angel Luis Rivera-Agosto, NBA’s Community Engagement Senior Coordinator, Justice Initiatives

“At this moment in United States history, there is no discussion more urgent than that concerning people’s survival,” said Rev. Angel Luis Rivera-Agosto, NBA’s Community Engagement Senior Coordinator for Justice Initiatives.  “How can I take care of my health? How can I provide food for myself and my family? How can my nonprofit continue to offer health and nutrition services and support? The implications of these questions are truly life-threatening. In this webinar, we will analyze the awful consequences of this recent law for health and nutrition and explore how we can organize for life and hope.”

The webinar will aim to provide a deeper understanding of the issues at stake for churches, nonprofits, and community leaders. This includes detailing the various impacts and consequences of the law on Medicaid, Medicare, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); offering suggestions that organizations can employ to mitigate or block these threats and impacts; and identifying existing initiatives, networks, and other information sources to stay informed on the law’s impacts. The webinar will also highlight possible alternatives other communities are putting into place in response to the law. Additionally, the webinar will advise on developing advocacy efforts to provide better healthcare, nutrition, and empower communities.

Whether you or your organization are directly involved in healthcare or food assistance services or simply seeking guidance on how to navigate this new environment, this webinar will help you prepare, connect, and respond with clarity and purpose.
