
Adulting 101: Things Nobody Taught Me About Money (Part I)
					This dynamic three-part webinar series empowers youth and young adults to reimagine their relationship with money. Hosted in partnership between the Making a Child Change (M.A.C.C.) Foundation, Disciple Home Mission’s YAYA Ministries, and NBA’s Young Adult Leadership Development Program, each session combines practical financial tools with in-depth reflection on money as a tool, a privilege, and a responsibility.
Participants will explore:
- Mindset: Unpacking family stories, spiritual wisdom, and historical context around money.
 
- Behavior: Building financial agency through budgeting, intentional spending, and foundational habits.
 
- Legacy: Planning for the future with strategic saving, debt management, investing, and generosity.

Speakers
Sophia M. Barnett is a passionate social entrepreneur and the Executive Director of Making a Child Change Foundation, an organization dedicated to empowering teens through financial literacy education, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurial training. As a leader for over 20 years, Sophia has championed numerous projects including four enduring ventures of her own, coupled with a life-long commitment to imparting wisdom as a Financial Literacy Advisor, Licensed Minister, and certified National Entrepreneur. Under her guidance, the M.A.C.C. foundation has launched innovative programs like the After School Financial Literacy Program and the M.A.C.C. Burger Employment Initiative, both of which have received recognition for their impact and effectiveness. Sophia’s love for youth empowerment and commitment to improving Detroit’s economic landscape are at the heart of the Making a Child Change mission! Beyond her professional pursuits, she is a culinary maestro and relishes her role as the cherished mother of three fearfully and wonderfully made young adults!! 
Rev. Managerrie Winston is a minister, educator, and advocate committed to creating spaces where all people regardless of age, identity, or background can belong and thrive. She currently serves as Youth and Young Adult Ministries Coordinator with Disciples Home Missions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she equips emerging leaders to grow, heal, and lead with purpose. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Texas Southern University, with a concentration in Public Relations and Advertising and a minor in Radio, Film, and Television. Rev. Winston is presently pursuing a Master of Divinity at Christian Theological Seminary. Her work includes the development of SELF, an affirming curriculum that nurtures the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of youth navigating today’s challenges. She also facilitates intergenerational trainings, creates faith formation resources, and organizes transformative gatherings such as Blooming to Plant: Going Beyond the Perimeter Training, which equips pastors and volunteers to cultivate ministries that welcome, affirm, and empower.
