Organizing Hope: Five Practices for Democratic Renewal

Overwhelming political changes prompt organizations to be innovative and take responsibility for helping others fulfill their purposes in times of uncertainty. How can we transform our resources, gifts, and talents into effective mobilization and organization for change? How can we connect our hearts, minds, and hands to overcome inertia and inspire action? This webinar will present a roadmap for community organizing, highlighting key steps for transformation from a grassroots perspective. It will also emphasize the crucial moral commitment to promote resourcefulness and civic action against authoritarianism. Rev. Angel Luis Rivera–AgostoĀ is NBAās Community Engagement Senior Coordinator for Justice Initiatives, where he creates and nurtures engagement strategies for the organization and its partners to transform the root causes of social injustice. Rev. Rivera-Agosto has 30 years of experience serving in various missional, ecumenical, and pastoral settings. He pastored the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at Dajaos, Bayamón (student pastor), and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at Maricao Ward, Vega Alta, both congregations based in Puerto Rico. Most recently, he served as the Global Relations Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean for Global Ministries for nine years. He also worked as the Puerto Rico Council of Churches Executive Secretary and Program Coordinator of several programs at the Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI, acronym in Spanish), and the World Council of Churches.

Rev. HĆ©ctor J. HernĆ”ndez MarcialĀ serves as Director of Community Engagement for NBA. In this role, HĆ©ctorās primary responsibility is to identify, establish, and deepen collaborative relationships that strengthen all NBA programsā work and capacity. He also works with other NBA staff to design, implement and evaluate programs with specific attention given to leadership development and advocacy/activism/organizing initiatives. In addition to that, Hector also collaborates with all of NBAās program areas to ensure diverse voices are included and heard equitably, and supervises NBAās Peer Learning and Wellness Groups.
