NBA Launches First-Ever National Recovery Month Programming
August 26, 2025 | by NBA Cares
For the first time in its history, NBA is offering dedicated content and programming for National Recovery Month—an important step in our ongoing commitment to mental health and wellness.
Observed every September, National Recovery Month is a time to “promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery possible,” according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
To mark the occasion, NBA’s Mental Health and Wellness Program will be offering resources throughout the month of September focused on addiction and recovery. These resources include videos from NBA’s Mental Health and Wellness team and other NBA staff, as well as other educational resources.
Three virtual events will also take place during the month:

September 3 – The Language We Use in Faith Spaces: Naming Addiction, Recovery, and Healing
This webinar will explore the power of language in faith communities when addressing addiction, recovery, and healing.

September 10 – Community Conversation: “What Counts as Addiction?”
This interactive event will reflect on how addiction shows up in our lives and communities, challenge common assumptions, and imagine what healing and compassion might look like for all who are struggling.

September 30 – SoulCare: Carrying Recovery Forward
A special closing webinar to reflect on the month and look ahead to sustaining recovery practices.
All events are free to attend, but registration is required.
This new focus on addiction and recovery is one of the reasons NBA welcomed Cameron Cunningham as Mental Health and Wellness Program Coordinator. Cameron brings exceptional dedication and meticulous preparation to his work at the intersection of faith and mental health. He has collaborated with both SAMHSA and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to deepen his expertise in addressing mental health and substance use disorders within faith communities. As he shared during NBA’s Giving Week:
“We’re creating space where people are seen, heard, and even more empowered to rediscover their self-worth, reclaim their personal story, and ultimately reconnect with hope.”
We hope these resources will support those directly impacted by addiction, as well as those working in the field of recovery and mental health. This is just the beginning of NBA’s journey in this space—and we’re honored to walk it with you.
